PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP AND INTERNSHIP DONORS


FUND DONOR ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Tourism Cares manages the scholarship and internship funds for various travel and tourism industry organizations, including the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) and the International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN) as well as funds established by individuals. The following list acknowledges the organizations and donors which make the 2011 Tourism Cares Professional Development Scholarships and Internships possible. The scholarships are to be used to reimburse awardees for travel-and-tourism or hospitality certificate programs, or travel and tourism conference or symposium. The list also includes internships, which are used to support applicants who seek to intern at a luxury travel agency with the intention of entering the travel and tourism industry.

ASTA SCHOLARSHIP FUND:

ASTA A. J. Spielman
This scholarship was established by the ASTA Central Atlantic Chapter to honor Andy Spielman, past chapter president and member for 36 years. He also served on numerous ASTA national committees. He was awarded the Joseph Rosenbluth Award in 1979 for outstanding contributions to the professional status of the travel agency business.

ASTA George Reinke
This scholarship was established by George Reinke, a long-term ASTA member from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to help educate travel and tourism industry professionals.

ASTA Allegheny Branch of Mid-America Chapter – Nancy Stewart
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Allegheny Branch of the Mid-America Chapter to honor a long time member, Nancy Stewart.

ASTA Arizona Chapter
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Arizona Chapter.

ASTA Orange County – Harry Jackson
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Orange County Chapter to honor a long time member, Harry Jackson.

ASTA Pacific Northwest Chapter – William Hunt
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Pacific Northwest Chapter to honor a long time member and past national ASTA president, William Hunt.

ASTA Rocky Mountain Chapter – Don Estey
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Rocky Mountain Chapter to honor long time member, Don Estey.

ASTA San Diego Chapter
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA San Diego Chapter.

ASTA Southeast Chapter
This scholarship was made possible by the ASTA Southeast Chapter.

IATAN RONALD A. SANTANA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
This scholarship was established by IATAN in memory of the late Ron Santana, former IATAN board member, past president of the Association of Retail Travel Agents (ARTA), and travel agency owner and advisor. Mr. Santana was dedicated to the education of travel agents and championed their cause. This scholarship, made possible by travel agent associations and suppliers, is to help individuals who are interested in pursuing or enhancing their careers as travel and tourism or hospitality industry professionals.

OTHER INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS:

Dr. Bill Newton – Kathy Neville Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Bill Newton, Co-Founder of the International Tour Management Institute (ITMI). For 25 years, he was an outspoken advocate for critical tour industry issues and helped raise the bar for tour guides and tour directors worldwide. It is also in memory of Kathy Neville, who for 15 years at ITMI was the heartfelt voice giving support and assurance to tour directors and tour operators.

Tourism Cares – Luxury Travel Advisor Professional Development Internship
The internship was established by Luxury Travel Advisor magazine to help provide an inspiring path for the next generation of luxury travel advisors. It is their hope that once the recipients of this internship are introduced to the dynamic world of luxury travel consulting, they will forge ahead with a career that will lead them to becoming some of tomorrow’s luxury travel advisor superstars.
